With more than 30 years of experience in the healthcare sector, Dr. Jan Sonander is a recognized figure in family medicine. He holds an MD, a master of science and a bachelor of science all from the University of California, Davis. A board-certified physician through the American Board of Family Medicine, Inc, he was chosen as the 2009 recipient of the Excellence in Patient Satisfaction Award by St. Joseph Health System of Sonoma County. Additionally, he was selected by Cambridge Publishing to be featured in its “101 Top Industry Experts,” a publication highlighting the personal and professional accomplishments of its most esteemed members.

Dr. Sonander regularly promotes the expansion of healthcare coverage to the disadvantaged. For him, it is not about how much patient care is worth to people; it is what he thinks they can afford, and what is fair to them. As a former president of the Sonoma County Medical Association, he endeavored to address the needs of the community’s children who lacked adequate healthcare. Additionally, he once proposed legislation calling for mandatory firearm safety instruction; a version of this bill is now law, which requires that Californians fulfill a safety course when they purchase weapons.

Dr. Sonander is the president of the Sonoma County Medical Association, and he is in his second term as chairman of credentials of Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where he is also chief of staff. He maintains active affiliation with the California Medical Association and American Academy of Family Physicians.
